Yay for Christmas Holidays!

Words cannot express how excited I am that I finally have the time and the head space to start blogging again without having to worry about Uni (I seriously felt like I was beginning to lose my mind for a while there). I am still going to be taking a mathematics course over the summer semester (yep! it's summer here in Australia) but fortunately I was able to enrol in an online offering and won't need to drive back and forth all the time. I'll also get to spend more time with the boyfriend. :D

Anyway, as I'm sure would be the case for most of you guys, my to-do list for the Christmas holidays is growing longer by the day. Luckily I managed to get a few tasks checked off during this last week following my exams. :)

The first task which I delightfully took on was to "Christma-fy" my apartment. Given that this will be our first Christmas in our own apartment, not to mention my first adult Christmas without a part-time job, we are on a pretty strict budget when it comes to purchasing non-essentials such as Christmas decorations. Thankfully B (being the lovely boyfriend that he is) offered to go halves in any of the costs as long as I promised to do the decorating myself - which I wanted to do anyway! :P So with a budget of $50 we set off to our local department store and returned home with all of this..

120cm Fibre Optic Christmas Tree - $38, Big W.
Gold Star and Santa Penguin - $4 each, Target.

Assorted red and gold ornaments - $4, Kmart.

I was really impressed with how we managed to stick (exactly!) to our budget and couldn't wait to set everything up.. even if it is only November. :P Then, in an attempt to personalise our new Christmas decor using the craft items that I already had at home, I set myself to work on making these little babies and couldn't be more pleased with the result! :)

Personalised Christmas tree decorations, made by me.

I enjoyed making them so much that I would LOVE to give some of these away to you, my awesome followers, as part of my first ever Christmas Giveaway! :D However I've decided that before I can host a Giveaway of my own I should probably have more than just 20 followers, SO.. if I can reach 50 followers by the 1st of December I will host my first ever giveaway on the 2nd! Don't worry though, if I can't reach 50 followers by that time I will post up a DIY tutorial instead.

The second task that I set out to complete was the refurbishment of my blog design. I've been wanting to give my blog a pick-me-up for a long time now but haven't had the funds to pay someone to do it for me, which is why I decided to have a go at creating a design all on my own. So, what do you guys think?!

I wanted my blog design to look as professional as possible whilst still being a little rough around the edges (just like me!). I knew that I wanted the design of my blog to appear delicate and girly, soft and colourful, vintage and lacey, and a representation of all that is me. All up it took me about 5 days to refurbish my design and I will continue to tweak it as the weeks go on.. but in the mean time I'm just really happy with what I've managed to achieve. :)

Anyway, I think I've rambled enough for one afternoon so I'll leave it up to you guys to tell me what you've been up to. Happy November lovelies!

I love your Christmas decorations too! You did well finding it all for $50! I should take you shopping with me!

Well, I hope you have a great week and it was great to hear from you.

  2. I think your design looks great! I love the purple and polka dots.

It was always so strange to me, living in the US, to think that some people celebrate Christmas/Holiday season in the summer! So you get like, summer clothes as gifts and could have a barbeque for celebrating! I can't imagine Christmas in warm weather. It would feel so strange to me.

Glad that you have some time off, though :) Enjoy! Good luck with your math class.
