Project: Longer Locks - 2 Month Update!

Hey everyone,

I am so excited to be writing this post as it means that two months have passed since I first commenced this project!  (to find out more about 'Project: Longer Locks', click here).  I have been successful in sticking to the project for the most part, and going by today's measurements, my hard work has been well and truly paying off. :D  

Prior to starting this project my hair was growing at a rate of roughly 1.25cm every three months, as opposed to the average rate which is 1.25cm every month.  With this in mind it is no surprise that my hair never grew beyond a certain point, especially since the anagen phase (growth phase) of human hair can be as short as just two years (I have a feeling my anagen phase is around 3 years).

Anyway, when I measured my hair this morning I almost screamed out in my excitement.. in the last two months my hair has grown a whole 4cm!  That's nearly double the rate of average hair growth, and more than four times the rate of my previous hair growth!  Can you believe it? :)

I had no idea that my hair had grown that much as I have been sticking to my plan of not blow drying or straightening my hair, and have been letting my hair air dry to assume it's natural wave.

So what else have I been doing that could possibly be contributing to this new rate of hair growth?  Here, I'll tell you..

  • I cut down my narcolepsy medication dosage from 6 tablets to 3 tablets a day.
  • I've stopped taking painkillers on a daily basis and try to only take them when it's that time of the month.
  • I've been drinking nothing but filtered water and the occasional chocolate milk.
  • I've been taking 2 capsules of Odourless Fish Oil/Vitamin D3 tablets, and 2 Vitamin C tablets every day (products used are pictured below).
  • I've also been taking 50mg of Zinc (1 capsule) every second day (products used are pictured below).
  • I started eating a lot more foods enriched with Vitamin B such as oatmeal, yoghurt and real butter and milk.
  • I've managed to dedicate 8 hours to sleeping every night.
  • I finished Uni for the year and have therefore been less stressed.
  • I haven't coloured or trimmed my hair.
  • I've only been washing/conditioning my hair every third day, and using dry shampoo sparingly when I've needed to (products used are pictured below).
  • I've been using some form of treatment on the mid to end lengths of my hair after every wash (products used are pictured below).
  • I've been using a wide toothed comb to comb through wet hair and to brush my hair between each wash.
  • I've been wearing my hair out as much as possible, and using snag free hair elastics whenever I put my hair up.
  • I've tried to wear a loose braid to bed as much as possible.

So where to from here?

I've decided to keep doing everything that I have been doing only I will be replacing the Juuce 'Shock Treatment' with the Toni&Guy 'Nourish Reconstruction Mask' as I have just recently used up the Juuce 'Shock Treatment'.  Also, once I've finished up my Nak 'Protective Shampoo and Conditioner' and 'Mask Treatment' I will also be switching to the Lee Stafford hair growth range.

In the mean time I will be writing up product reviews on the treatments that I have tried so far, and will provide you guys with another update on my progress in two months time. :)
