My life lately: Teaching internship, my birthday etc.

Hey there.. holy wow!  I can't believe it has been 7 whole weeks since I last put together a 'My life lately' post. So much (and yet not so much) has been going on in my life in the past 7 weeks, but for the first time in a long time I haven't had the inclination to document every little thing like I normally would.  However, as today is the start of a new and very exciting chapter in my life (you'll find out why by the end of this post), I've decided to scrape together the few photos that I actually have taken recently and give you guys a brief recap of the end of my previous life chapter.  I hope you enjoy!

1. At the beginning of May I decided to quit calorie counting cold turkey as I found that although it was beneficial to my healthy eating regime, it was taking up way too much of my time and making me feel incredibly OCD.  I'm still eating just as clean as before, the only difference now is that I'm eating food to give myself energy/meet my nutritional needs/tantalise my taste buds rather than to simply meet a specific number of calories each day. :)

2. With the stress of assignments, commencing my teaching internship and finishing up at Uni, I ended up putting my gym membership on hold so that I could save my pennies and concentrate on the day-to-day.  As a result I've lost pretty much all muscle tone that I had previously attained, but I'm not at all bothered by this as clean eating alone has provided me with enough energy to keep me going without having to rely on my narcolepsy medication as much (I currently only need to take 1-2 tablets per day as opposed to my original prescription of 6 tablets per day).  My gym membership payments did start coming out of my account again yesterday though, so I'll be back to my usual work out sessions 3-4 days a week in no time. :)

3. At the beginning of May my Nana and Pa (and my lovely Mum) came down to stay at the Gold Coast for a few days.  As I only live 15 minutes away from the apartment that they were staying at, I made sure to make the most of their incredible view by going over to visit them each day that they were down here.  Isn't it amazing?!

4. Because I was far too busy to do any in store shopping, I ended up purchasing quite a few things online. Two of my favourite purchases are this quirky dachshund pillow case from my friend Kristen's design shop, and this adorable giraffe onesie that I found by accident on ebay.

5. On the 29th of May I celebrated my 24th birthday by waking up at 5.30am to get ready for another day of my teaching internship.  Fortunately I had a lot of "non contact" time at school that day, so I actually had a chance to relax/eat/pee etc.  I also received my favourite perfume and signature scent - 'Beautiful' by Estee Lauder - as a present from B, and was treated to a peanut m&m's covered chocolate mud cake that B kindly made for me after a long day of working at the hospital.  Isn't he sweet?! :)

6. After spending day after day putting my hair up into a high pony tail or bun to avoid catching potential head lice from my students, I decided to take the time to style my hair nicely the other morning and was pleasantly surprised to notice just how long my hair has grown!  It's been shedding like crazy lately and has been a bit temperamental since the weather has gotten cooler, but overall I'm incredibly happy with my long dark locks. :D

7. Throughout my final teaching experience it quickly dawned on me that teaching is not something I want to be doing for the rest of my life.  I actually came to this realisation almost 3 years ago, but because I'm such a perfectionist and always have to finish what I start, I put on a brave face and continued my teaching degree anyway.  As of yesterday though, I am finally free of the one thing that has been tying me down and keeping me from following my dreams/reaching my true potential for the past 4 and a half years.  I am no longer a "student", "pre service teacher", "future educator", or any of the other labels that I have allowed myself to be given.. and I tell you what, I feel so much more EMPOWERED now!

So where to from here? you might ask.  Well.. after a few days of rest/spending time with my close friends and family, I have wholeheartedly decided that I will be making what was once just my "hobby" graphic design business my full time job!  Can you believe it?!  Me.. a small business owner!  I can hardly wait. :D

  1. good on you for following your dreams! You deserve to be happy!

  2. LOVE the giraffe onesie! :)

I have no idea how teachers today put up with kids...seems as the years go by parenting & discipline at home go out the window. So sad.

I switched majors in college a total of 6 times, & I still haven't found a job...its tough, but you gotta do what makes you happy!

    1. Hehe! I bought it off ebay for around $17 including delivery, such a bargain! :P

and yes, you're right! Most children these days are such hard work. They have no respect for their elders, there friends.. anyone really. :(

I hope you find a job you love soon hun! xx

  3. Not enough people truly follow their dreams, so to be one of those who do makes you amazing and inspiring! I studied graphic design for three years and only finished my course because I had started it. I can't wait to see your design journey!

    1. Aww! That's so sweet. :) You're actually one of the first few people to have said something positive about what I'm doing. Most people just say something along the lines of "so you've basically just wasted the last 4 and a half years then?".. sigh! :( So thank you so much for your support! xx

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment! I really appreciate it. :)
