Feeling more positive about moving to Townsville.

The last time I mentioned that we were moving to Townsville I was feeling a bit apprehensive.  I was overwhelmed by the thought of a number of things including distance from friends and family, the cost of having to move, finding a new place over Christmas, not knowing anybody up there, etc.  I spent a good couple of weeks stressing out about everything until I finally sat down and started writing up a list of all the positives I could think of about moving.  Here is what I came up with:

  • We get to move into a house! :)  After living in units/apartments for the past four years and having to deal with our neighbours in shouting distance, shitty body corporates, anonymous letters from people in our complex, etc. living in a house of our own (even if it's still a rental) is going to be a much welcomed change!
  • Not only will we be living in a house, but we'll have the freedom to live in a nice house as well.  I'm talking a modern house with air conditioning throughout, 3-4 bedrooms (we currently have 2 bedrooms and one of them is used for my office so it will be great to have a spare room for visitors), multiple bathrooms, a laundry, a decent kitchen with modern appliances, a well kept fully fenced backyard with a covered patio, automatic lock up garage, etc.  This is the sort of stuff that excites me more than anything! :D
  • Have you checked out the photos in this post?  This is what Google tells me our new location is going to look like.  Depending on where we choose to live, the beach could either be right on our doorstep or as little as a 20 minute drive away.. I'd personally be over the moon with either.
  • Townsville is basically miniature dachshund paradise!  I'm not kidding.. apparently dachshunds are one of, if not the, most popular breed of dog that you will see up there. There is a dachshund group on facebook which I have already joined and they have welcomed us with open arms.  I seriously can't wait to meet them all. :)
  • There are apparently job opportunities up there for me too, or so everyone keeps telling me. I just need to get my butt into gear to find one.

There are of course other positives that I didn't include in my list, but they are more in regard to B's career and financial aid for the moving expenses.. things that are still a bit up in the air.

Are there any other positives that you think might be missing from my list?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    1. Oh my gosh, the photos are incredible aren't they? I can't wait until we get there so we can bust out the camera and take some photos of our own. :D If our new place is amazing as I am hoping it will be I will definitely be taking some photos of the rooms once we get them decorated. I might even do the same with our current place before we leave so that I will at least have some memories of this time in our lives. :)

Thanks for stopping by by the way! I am now following you by GFC.

  5. I love you write a positives list!! I do that also. Like I said to you in your last post. Moving is scary, change is scary but try to see that this is a new adventure for you! I have seen so much of Australia and the world because of allowing change into my life. It can be hard to adjust and having no friend close by can be scary but you will make new friends eventually and your other friends and family will always be there. We are lucky we live in an age where we have intern and Facebook and so you don't feel so far away. Hunny I am still seven years later living in apartments and townhouses. I bought my own place and though spacious it's a townhouse! I dream of the day we buy an ACTUAL house also. I need to make a home for my family... ah well, can't complain really. I think it's a great move and new experiences should be one on your list. xx

    1. Heheh, I know! I much prefer just writing a positives list than a pro's and con's list too. I tend not to want to even consider the negatives. :P We're very excited for the new adventure. It will be great to break away from our South East Queensland bubble haha! We've actually never lived in a townhouse but have always wanted to. I must be a weirdo because I have always loved the idea of stairs. We can't really have a place with stairs now that we have a dachshund though.. we need to look after her back. I'm sure an actual house with a yard will be on the cards for you guys soon. Maybe then you can get a little dog! :D

  6. I am brand new to your blog but I think you've done the right thing by writing down the positives. Having moved away from a lot of family and friends myself I know how hard it can be, but, once you get past the initial phase of feeling a little alienated and REALLY missing people and feeling a little homesick, it will all be worth it. Just stick to your guns, you can't keep pulling back on bigger and better things because of others.
I hope all goes well and you get settled in quickly :) looking forward to seeing more posts on your new home!
