June Design Work!

I know I say this every month but I seriously can't believe the month of June is over already!  It was my birthday at the end of May and to me it feels like maybe a week or two has passed since then - certainly not a whole month though!

Anyway, during this time I was fortunate enough to work with some amazing new and old clients of mine, and to finish off almost all of my current design projects before the end of the financial year (which for me is today).  Who else with a tax debt wants everything business related wrapped in a neat little package before June 30th so that they can do their taxes on the 1st?  Just me?  Okay then. :P

Custom Blog Design for Maria from Mummy Goes Mad

One of the design projects I worked on throughout most of this month was a custom blog, facebook and google + page design for an amazing new Australian lifestyle/mummy blogger by the name of Maria.  Rather than simply giving you a brief overview of the design process, I thought I would point you in the direction of this incredibly detailed blog post that Maria posted earlier this week outlining the entire process step by step (there may even be a discount for you guys!).  I didn't ask her to write this post, she did so out of the kindness of her heart and from her willingness to help out and be open and honest with her readers.  Needless to say, the blog design I created for her is flipping awesome!  I don't usually tend to toot my own horn but this is definitely a design that I am openly proud of. In fact, I love this design so much that it is a big part of my inspiration for my own upcoming blog redesign that I will be implementing later next month.  Think lots of white space, subtle pops of glitter, clear and easy to read fonts, updated about me sections/pages, and hopefully.. a whole new writing style!  Enough about me though.. if you haven't already, I urge you to go and check out Mummy Goes Mad to see this beautiful design live in all its glory!  Oh, and tell Maria that I said hello. ;)

Custom Blog Design for Catherine from You Wish You

If you've been following my monthly design showcase posts for a while now (and I know some of you have!), then you'll know that I have worked with Catherine on the design for her awesome blog You Wish You before.  This time around though Catherine wanted to work together with an illustrator to create the perfect watercolour portrait of herself that would match the overall theme of her blog for me to incorporate into her new header.  Ella Smethurst, a talented Australian artist from Melbourne, Australia (yay! fellow Aussie!) was the illustrator Catherine chose to work with, and oh my gosh was she the perfect choice.  Her portrait of Catherine was absolutely stunning and matched the design I had already started creating for her perfectly.  The blog design is soft and airy, very girly and just down right pretty.. definitely one that you guys need to check out live!

Custom Blog Design for Laura from My London Dream

In case you guys hadn't worked this out already, I am not illustrator by any means.  I have a few amazing illustrator contacts that I like to recommend to my clients, but every once in a while when I feel like I am up to it, I like to take on the challenge of creating blog design graphics myself.  This was one of those blog designs.  Laura, a talented lifestyle/travel blogger from England, wanted me to create a silhouette for her header of a London cityscape/skyline. It took me forever to find the right stock photo to use but once I'd found it the rest of the process came pretty naturally to me.  The finished look of the design is very sleek, clean and minimalist, and easy to read and navigate.  If you'd like to see it live, you can see it live here.

Custom Blog Design for Ellen from The Beauty PR

There are two main styles of blog designs that I love to create - clean and simple, and soft and girly.  This blog design that I created for Ellen from The Beauty PR is the perfect blend of both of these styles.  Ellen wanted soft pinks, greys and lots of white space to be used.  She also wanted a simple and girly/chic appearance.  What do you guys think?  Did I deliver? :)

Custom Blog Design for Karina from Blog da Karina Hassen

The last blog design I have to show you guys this month is another sleek and clean design for the gorgeous Karina from Blog da Karina Hassen.  Karina left most of this design up to me after sending me a few examples of the kind of blog designs she likes, which were classy and chic, and this was what I came up with.  I'm pretty obsessed with glitter at the moment so I decided to include a few glitter touches.  Karina really seemed to like the glitter and told me to run with it and make her design beautiful, and that's what I (hopefully) did.  What do you reckon?  Is this design classy, chic and beautiful?

If you guys are interested in working with me in July/August, feel free to send me an email to felicity@pursuitoffelicitydesigns.com and let's see what we can come up with! :D

Our Miniature Dachshund Ellie is 6 months old!

That's right.  Princess Eleanor, Ellie, Ellie belly, naughty Nora, smelly Ellie, silly sausage.. whatever you want to call her, is 6 months old today!  Weighing in at just 3.1 kg she looks more like she's 3-4 months old, however personality/behaviour wise she has gotten SO much better since those initial few months after we first brought her home when we were wanting to tear our hair out. :P  She is absolutely almost perfect and we love her to pieces!

Not too long ago I was inspired by this post of Becky's from Milk Bubble Tea where she shared a few observations about her own Miniature Dachshund puppy, Oscar, at around the same 6 month age mark.  Her words had me nodding in agreement - hell, they even had me laughing out loud at one point, but they also got me thinking about all of the random little things that Ellie does that I wish were included in her post.. So, like any good blogger and furmum would do, I have decided to share my own observations here with you today.  Enjoy!

- Sometimes when I'm home alone (with Ellie) I relish in the freedom of going to the toilet with the door left open (don't judge me).  That is until our vivacious Dachshund puppy decides to bound into the room at the very moment that I pull off some toilet paper, snatching it from my hands and running off to another room where I will later find a hundred tiny shredded up toilet paper remnants.  They have incredible toilet paper sensing abilities, I tell you!

- Speaking of sensing abilities, Ellie always seems to know exactly when you're going to turn around and look at her, and she is always ready and waiting to give you this look..

- Every night after dinner is like psycho hour until you take Ellie to bed.  She literally runs around and around the living room at super high speeds, banging into walls, barking at the top of her lungs until she either passes out or gets taken to bed.

- I will forever find it amusing when Ellie begs and begs to lie on our laps when sitting at the computer, then when you make the slightest movement because she's cutting off your circulation she makes the biggest grumbling noises ever in her sleep.. like how dare WE make HER feel uncomforable! :P

- One of my favourite things about Ellie is that it doesn't matter if you've been gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours, she is always so excited to see us.. like she thought we weren't ever coming back or something.  She always does this funny little dance as well where her long back hunches over and she's kind of spinning around in circles almost.  She looks like she is going to do a wee would probably be the best way to describe it actually.

- Once I was busy working in my home office when I noticed Ellie wasn't running around causing a ruckus anymore.  When I went out to check on her I found her on the couch like this, cuddled up under her blanket.  Yes, she actually covered herself up with a blanket.. She's a genius!

Now to finish this post up, here are some super adorable photos of Ellie and I having a nap together (FYI: you're going to want a dachshund after seeing these photos)..

If you want to know more about Ellie, you can read my past blog posts that I have written about her here.

Also, if you're not doing so already, you can follow Ellie on Instagram @pursuitofeleanor for more adorable puppy pictures which I update almost daily! :)

Where I am right now. An insight into my life.

I know it's been a while since I last did a blog post.  I don't really have an excuse for it either, other than being preoccupied and feeling generally uninspired.  That was until a very kind client and new friend of mine, Maria, decided to give me a wake up call in more ways than one (I'll explain more in a few weeks time) and helped me to realise what I needed to do to get my passion back.

To cut a very long story short, I'm going to be shaking things up a bit - both online and in real life.  It's not going to be something that happens overnight, so hopefully I'll be able to take you guys along on this journey with me. :)  In the mean time though, I thought it might be fun to share a few details of what I've been getting up to lately and what I expect to be doing over the next few months..

Photo taken by my Mum and edited by Maria.

What I've been up to:

  • Taking lots of photos of Ellie.  B and I are pretty much obsessed right now.  She even has her own instagram account which currently has more followers than mine, lol.
  • Watching old episodes of my favourite soap opera Passions on YouTube.  The quality is pretty shit, but the nostalgia and butterflies are still there.  Theresa and Ethan all the way!
  • Doing lots and lots of design work.  Most of which is still unfinished, however I'll be able to show you some of the designs in my end of the month showcase in the next few days. :)
  • Attending dachshund meet ups.  I swear Ellie has a better social life than I do.
  • Hanging out with my friends Katie and Bianca more than usual and actually going out and doing things together (kind of a big deal for me!).

What I'll be getting up to:

  • Taxes.  I plan on getting them over and done with on the 1st of July, but definitely no later than the 3rd. This is my first time doing my taxes as a small business owner and I'm desperate (and nervous) to know how much money I owe.
  • Visiting my Dad and his fiance Judy, my two step sisters and (most importantly) my baby brother Lucas. He'll be 6 months old on the 9th of July so it will be pretty surreal to see how much he has grown since the last time I was up in Toowoomba.
  • Depending on how big (or small) my tax bill is, I'd also like to go away on a short holiday to Mackay to visit two of my besties, Anita and Jaana.
  • Rebranding my blog, design business and social media to be more inspiring and a better representation of ME.
  • Finding out where B, Ellie and I will be moving to next year for B's medical internship. We're hoping to be placed somewhere in Brisbane, but Ipswich, Toowoomba and even as far north as Townsville are also on the cards.
  • Looking for a permanent part time, or even a full time job, to give me some secure income as I build up my design business.

I feel like there is so much more that I'm forgetting to tell you guys, but I guess I've told you enough for now anyway.

I'd love to hear what you guys have been getting up to in the comments below.  I feel like I don't ask about you guys enough, and I'd love to get to know my readers a bit better. :)

A day at the dog park!

Today was a public holiday here in Australia, so when a bunch of local dachshund owners arranged a last minute play date at the dog park I just couldn't say no, despite how much design work I'm already falling behind with.. woops!  I'm so glad we went though as Ellie had such a wonderful time and really came into her own.  She just loves being around other dachshunds. :D

In case you couldn't tell, Ellie is the smallest dachshund running around in a light purple harness.  Her legs look so long next to the other snags, but that's just because her chest hasn't dropped fully yet.  She's definitely a 'true' mini dachshund though, that's for sure.  I'd be surprised if she ends up weighing more than 4kg as an adult. :P

So what did you guys get up to yesterday/over the weekend?  :)
