Currently.

Reading:  I should be reading 'Grey' seeing as it's the first physical copy of a book that I have purchased in years, but unfortunately I just haven't gotten into it. It's too much like the original.

Watching:  Pretty Little Liars. I am seriously obsessed with this show at the moment and hang out for Wednesday afternoons like they're the weekend or something. I have so many theories about -A and would love to hear some of yours if you wanted to leave them in the comments for me! ;)

Listening to:  Same shit as usual. Been far too busy watching Netflix to download any new songs recently.

Smelling:  The slow cooker chilli that I just finished preparing for tonight's dinner. That and the smell of a freshly cleaned house!

Thinking about:  Places that we should take B's brother Tim to while he is up here visiting. Last night we took him to the top of Castle Hill where he took the lovely photo of us pictured above. We then went to The Strand for dinner and ice cream which definitely did not disappoint.

Wishing:  That B and I didn't have to work tomorrow while Tim is still here. I'm sure he'll find something fun to do, but it would be cool if we both had the full weekend off to show him around a bit more. Maybe if we're lucky we can take him to Maggie Island on Sunday!

Working on:  Decluttering/organising/purging my belongings. I've actually been doing really well and even managed to get rid of three full bags of clothes this week, which makes me very happy.

Loving:  How freeing my minimalist journey has been for me so far. The next big step for me is to simplify my diet and get back to all natural foods again. I think doing this will make everything come together for me. For now though, I'm just not ready to give up my gelato!

Also, I am still 100% head over heels in love with Townsville. I seriously want to get married and raise our family here. Is that completely selfish of me?

Anticipating:  The possibility of visiting Maggie Island this Sunday, and then having my friends Jaana and Anita come to visit me next weekend. I'm also really pumped for the arrival of our new couch and having my Dad and step family come to visit us in September. :D

So what have you been up to lately?

Blogging with intention + the road to minimalism.

There's a reason I haven't been updating this blog as regularly as I used to. Partly because of Netflix (I'd be lying if I said this had nothing to do with it), partly because of work (both regular and design work), but mostly due to all the 'clutter' in my life. The clutter I am referring to is both mental and physical; the physical contributing largely to the mental.

If you know me in person you're probably wondering what physical clutter I could possibly be talking about. I mean, my house is always relatively clean and tidy, everything has it's place, and in comparison to some peoples homes it's already very minimalist in regards to the amount of items we own. Even our fridge looks empty 95% of the time because I only purchase what we need for that week. That being said, my desire to own only the bare essentials and/or the things that truly bring me happiness is still very overwhelming. I dedicate my weekends to ridding our home of 'excess', but end up procrastinating due to the large amount of tasks I'd ideally like to get done, which in turn only exacerbates the problem.

I don't think it helps that my weekdays only ever consist of working, cooking, going to the gym, watching Netflix, instagramming, and sleeping. Because by the time the weekend rolls around, the last thing I want to be faced with is a massive to do list, even if that to do list is going to help my situation in the long run. You see, the way I look at it is that the less stuff I own, the more time I have to concentrate on enjoying life.

Think about it. By having a smaller wardrobe, for example, I won't be spending as much time picking out my outfits, nor will I be spending as much time washing/ironing clothes. Same goes with the amount of items in our kitchen. The less dishes we own, the more we are forced to wash up as we go, meaning we rarely have a large pile of dishes to wash up (or to hound the other to do). This ultimately means more time for the fun things in life, and a lot less stress on ourselves and our relationship.

Getting up the courage to remove this 'clutter' from our life is so much harder than it should be though, and it ends up taking up so much of my headspace to a point where it just gets put on the back burner until the next weekend. Slowly but surely though, I am eliminating clutter from my life and reaping the benefits, no matter how small.

It is my hope that towards the end of this year I will be living in a space that I associate with fun and freedom, as well as a strong sense of calm and a feeling of relaxation. My overall aim though is to claim some (if not all) of my headspace back so that I have more mental time for blogging, exploring, sharing with and helping others, and maybe just maybe even planning for our future. I'd especially love to share a photo tour of our home with you once I am finally at peace with the way things are around here.

In the mean time though, please bare with me if my blog appears a bit forgotten about for a while. I promise you it isn't, and I promise you I will be back. You can always follow me on instagram for a sneak peak into my new way of life and a glimpse at my minimalism journey. :)

Instagram Vs Reality // Part 1.

Today's blog post is one that was inspired by a fun little series I've been reading over on Simply the Beth, where she not only shares some of her recent instagram snaps, but the real story behind each of the photos. You know, not the fancy story that you share in the caption, but what you are really thinking/doing when taking/sharing the photo.

Now seeing as I don't share photographs on instagram that often (in comparison to other bloggers at least) I'm thinking of making this post a monthly occurrence, give or take a week or two depending on how many photos I have to share with you guys.

Anyway, enough of my rambling.. Let's begin!

Instagram: One of the best chocolate milks I've ever tried, second only to the Max Brenner salted caramel milkshake. Yum!

Reality: I didn't have very long to take this photo as I obviously wanted to drink this baby asap, so I made my family wait around in the parking lot of the shops with my car door open for light and my drink propped up on a towel so that I could get a shot of my milk straight away. #instagramlyf

Instagram: Philly cheese steak sandwich. Actual heaven.

Reality: This meal was actual heaven, that's no lie. The food baby I had afterwards obviously wasn't pictured though. Nor was me moving our empty drinks around out of the shot because they were ruining the whole aesthetic.

Instagram: Townsville, you beautiful bastard you.

Reality: I made my partner drive out of the way from where we were going so I could take this photo. I ideally wanted to take the shot from the middle of the road, but there were too many cars passing me on either side so I had to run back to the side of the road to take an inferior shot. People were giving me filthy looks as they drove past me as well. Such a fucking tourist.

Instagram: Overnight oats soaked in delicious full cream jersey milk, topped with fresh strawberries and a drizzle of honey. Heaven.

Reality: Okay, so this meal wasn't as heavenly as that philly cheese steak sandwich from earlier, but as far as porridge goes it was pretty decent. Was it worth taking a photo of? Probably not, but I did so anyway. Rather than taking a photo of it on my kitchen bench like a normal person though, I decided to sit it on top of one of my dining table cushions by the window in just the right position to be in a (close to) perfect instagram square. Oh the shame of it all.

So there you have it. My Instagram vs Reality for the month. Feel free to write up a similar post of your own if you enjoyed this one and make sure to share it with me in the comments! :)
