My life lately.

The internet was down one morning, so I decided to put the tree up. :)

One of my creations arrived in the mail.  Felt so surreal!

Had a beach weekend with family and friends.

Spotted a rainbow puppy on the dog beach!

Also spotted this naughty gnome at the markets. Haha!

Made this yummy recipe!

And last, but not least, I did some online shopping. ;)

Project: Longer Locks - 2 Month Update!

Hey everyone,

I am so excited to be writing this post as it means that two months have passed since I first commenced this project!  (to find out more about 'Project: Longer Locks', click here).  I have been successful in sticking to the project for the most part, and going by today's measurements, my hard work has been well and truly paying off. :D

Prior to starting this project my hair was growing at a rate of roughly 1.25cm every three months, as opposed to the average rate which is 1.25cm every month.  With this in mind it is no surprise that my hair never grew beyond a certain point, especially since the anagen phase (growth phase) of human hair can be as short as just two years (I have a feeling my anagen phase is around 3 years).

Anyway, when I measured my hair this morning I almost screamed out in my excitement.. in the last two months my hair has grown a whole 4cm!  That's nearly double the rate of average hair growth, and more than four times the rate of my previous hair growth!  Can you believe it? :)

I had no idea that my hair had grown that much as I have been sticking to my plan of not blow drying or straightening my hair, and have been letting my hair air dry to assume it's natural wave.

my hair today after being left to dry naturally

So what else have I been doing that could possibly be contributing to this new rate of hair growth?  Here, I'll tell you..

  • I cut down my narcolepsy medication dosage from 6 tablets to 3 tablets a day.
  • I've stopped taking painkillers on a daily basis and try to only take them when it's that time of the month.
  • I've been drinking nothing but filtered water and the occasional chocolate milk.
  • I've been taking 2 capsules of Odourless Fish Oil/Vitamin D3 tablets, and 2 Vitamin C tablets every day (products used are pictured below).
  • I've also been taking 50mg of Zinc (1 capsule) every second day (products used are pictured below).
  • I started eating a lot more foods enriched with Vitamin B such as oatmeal, yoghurt and real butter and milk.
  • I've managed to dedicate 8 hours to sleeping every night.
  • I finished Uni for the year and have therefore been less stressed.
  • I haven't coloured or trimmed my hair.
  • I've only been washing/conditioning my hair every third day, and using dry shampoo sparingly when I've needed to (products used are pictured below).
  • I've been using some form of treatment on the mid to end lengths of my hair after every wash (products used are pictured below).
  • I've been using a wide toothed comb to comb through wet hair and to brush my hair between each wash.
  • I've been wearing my hair out as much as possible, and using snag free hair elastics whenever I put my hair up.
  • I've tried to wear a loose braid to bed as much as possible.

products I've been using!

So where to from here?

I've decided to keep doing everything that I have been doing only I will be replacing the Juuce 'Shock Treatment' with the Toni&Guy 'Nourish Reconstruction Mask' as I have just recently used up the Juuce 'Shock Treatment'.  Also, once I've finished up my Nak 'Protective Shampoo and Conditioner' and 'Mask Treatment' I will also be switching to the Lee Stafford hair growth range.

In the mean time I will be writing up product reviews on the treatments that I have tried so far, and will provide you guys with another update on my progress in two months time. :)

Beach Weekend Recap.

Late Friday morning my Mum drove down to the coast to visit B and I, catch up with the girls and finally meet their Mum.  We decided to meet up for lunch at Paradise Point, grabbed some fish and chips (or in my case a pluto pup) and just enjoyed the fresh air. :)

After lunch the girls and I went for a little walk and asked B to snap a few a lot of photographs of us. These two were my favourites..

Afterwards the girls and their Mum returned home for dinner and B and I took my Mum back to our place. As B was leaving for a boys night/work shift, Mum and I commenced our girls weekend.  We'd already arranged to go to the movies with the girls later that night, so while we were waiting I started cooking dinner (slow cooker chicken curry) and we watched 'Crazy Stupid Love' on dvd.  When the girls arrived I quickly gave them a makeover (I'm obsessed with makeover's lately) and then we head out to see 'The perks of being a wallflower'.  After the movie the girls returned home and Mum and I head back to my place to watch The Big Bang Theory and get some sleep.

The next morning the girls arrived relatively early and the four of us head off to check out the Carrara markets. The markets were pretty rubbish so we moved on to a shopping centre, did some Christmas shopping, and grabbed ourselves some lunch.  Come 2.30pm we were all fairly exhausted so Mum dropped us home and made the trip back to her house.  Within half an hour of Mum's departure I ended up getting a full on migraine, so I was actually thankful that our day ended early.

By Sunday morning I was feeling much better, which was lucky, as our friends Steph and Andy were coming down to visit.  Steph and Andy had never been to our local beaches before so B and I decided to show them around.  First we went to Main Beach where we managed to get a tan sunburned and ate some delicious icecream, then we moved on to this awesome fish and chip shop where we picked up some lunch to eat at 'The Spit'.  After lunch I suggested we go for a walk to see if there was another beach nearby, and fortunately we did as we ended up discovering the coolest dog friendly beach that I have ever come across. We're definitely going back there with the furbabies next time! :)

So how was your weekend?  Get up to anything out of the ordinary?

Real Techniques Brushes Review.

Hey guys,

Today I thought I would do another beauty product review, this time on some of the make-up brushes I have been using from the Real Techniques range by Samantha Chapman.  I purchased six of these brushes (pictured below) about 3 months ago, and since then I have used these brushes 2-3 times a week.

L-R: Stippling brush, Buffing brush, Shading brush, Pointed foundation brush, Detailer brush and Contour brush.

These brushes have been out for a while now and have received so much praise from beauty guru's, however being someone who is only just getting into make-up I thought it would be fun to share my "not so experienced" opinion. :)  So, without further ado, here are my thoughts..

Stippling brush - This brush is great for applying liquid foundation but terrible for applying mineral foundation.  I agree that this brush can be used to achieve an "airbrushed" look, although you may need to apply several layers of foundation in order for this to happen.  I would personally only ever use this brush before a big night out as I believe saving my foundation is more important than looking like a magazine model.

Buffing brush - This brush is without a doubt my favourite brush out of all six.  Not only does this brush apply flawless liquid foundation, but it is also great at applying mineral foundation, pressed powders, blush.. the list goes on!  The bristles on this brush are so soft that you won't want to put the brush down.  I honestly look forward to putting on my foundation of a morning as I know I'll be using this brush. :)

Shading brush - This brush, whilst not one of my favourites, is good for applying eye shadow to the outer lid and crease.  It isn't the best at picking up colour, at least in my experience, but it is definitely suitable for blending out eye shadow that has already been applied.

Pointed foundation brush - I tried using this brush to apply my foundation as is its purpose, but all it did was soak up my foundation and make the whole application process ten times longer.  I decided to take to YouTube to find out if anyone had found an alternative use for this brush, and most users suggested that the brush was good for applying concealer underneath the eyes.  Well I tried that, and no, it didn't work for me at all.  Oh well.. you win some, you lose some!

Detailer brush - I don't use this brush very often, however it is a great brush for precision application of eye shadow on the tear ducts as well as for applying darker lipsticks that you don't want to smudge around the outside of your lips.  A great little brush to pull out for special make-up occasions.

Contour brush - This is my second favourite brush after the buffing brush as it can be used for applying highlighter, bronzer and blusher without having to clean the brush in between.  It is the perfect size, and is very soft.  A great little brush to have in your collection. :)

If you're interested in picking these brushes up for yourself, you can head on over to and use the discount code KZV812 to receive $5 off any order under $40, or $10 off any order over $40 if you're a first time customer! (Please note, I was given this discount code to share with you all after purchasing these brushes with my own money. I was not asked to write this post or to promote this website at all).

I hope this review has been helpful to some of you, and if you have any questions about the brushes please feel free to ask me in a comment below. :)

Why Do You Wear Make-Up Tag.

1. When did you begin loving make-up?
Going from some of the photos taken of me in my final years of high school you would think I began loving make-up around the age of 16-17, funnily enough though I didn't start loving make-up until 3 or 4 months ago.  I had pretty decent skin when I was younger so I only ever bothered to put on eyeliner (check out my raccoon eyes below) and the occasional smear of lipgloss.  It wasn't until my first year of Uni that I was introduced to the Mary Kay range and started experimenting with blush and mineral foundation.  Whilst I loved the look that these products created and used them regularly, I still wasn't overly fussed on wearing make-up as a whole.  In fact once B and I moved in together I pretty much stopped wearing make-up altogether.. except for special occasions of course.  A few months ago however, I found myself actually wanting to get more in to make-up.  There were (and still are) so many parts of my life that I just had zero control over, and applying make-up to give myself a confidence boost was one of the few things I found I could control and even enjoy!

Me in years 11 and 12.

2. How do you feel without make-up?
If I've recently broken out, my skin is looking red, or the dark circles underneath my eyes are making me look like a zombie then I will probably feel pretty uncomfortable, but not so uncomfortable that I'll want to apply make-up just to duck to the grocery store or to sit around the apartment all day.  I feel totally comfortable not wearing make-up around my best friends, family and partner, so I guess that's a good thing.

3. What do you like about make-up?
I like that it can be used to hide blemishes as well as to enhance certain features, such as my green eyes. :)

4. Three 'Holy Grail' items?
Rimmel 'Wake Me Up' foundation - The best liquid foundation that I have ever used!  It applies and matches my skin tone perfectly.  Excellent coverage that lasts all day. :)

Rimmel 'Match Perfection' skin tone adapting concealer - The perfect concealer for post foundation application.  I use this to hide any of the blemishes not fully covered by my foundation, and it blends in and covers them perfectly.

Rimmel 'Glam Eyes' Day 2 Night mascara - A mascara that has two different brushes built in, one for subtle day time lashes and the other for voluminous night time lashes. This is the best mascara that I have tried to date.

My life lately.

Filmed the best friends tag with Anita and Jaana.

Went out for dinner with B and his friends and tried ribs for the very first time.

Ordered my steak 'getting destroyed but cooked right through'. :P

Said farewell to poor Chuck Bass after almost 2 years together.

More videos of Phoebe and Joey.

Hey guys,

Today I thought I would share a few more funny videos of our beloved furbabies Phoebe and Joey. :)  Joey and Phoebe have been hanging out on a daily basis for almost a year now, and in that time the two of them have formed an incredible bond and a number of adorably awesome habits as documented in the videos below.

In this first video I managed to record (with the help of my Mum) the reaction I get from the furbabies whenever I return to my family home for a visit.  I apologise in advance for Phoebe's high pitched whining and would highly advise you to turn your speakers down before watching. :P

This next video documents a game of tug of war that Phoebe and Joey share on a regular basis.  I'll give you one guess as to who will win, haha. :D

And that's it.. for now anyway!  I have plenty more video ideas up my sleeve, I just need to remember to have my camera ready for when these adorable occasions arise. ;)

I hope you all enjoyed these videos and that you're having a lovely week!

A conversation with Joey, holiday life + a rant about teenage behaviour.

Hey guys,

I hope you're all well and having a relaxing weekend like I am for the first time in months.  If not, check out this short video of our Maltese puppy "talking" to my Mum and you'll instantly feel ten times better. :)

I can't believe I've finally finished my second last semester of Uni.  On Wednesday afternoon I sat my final exam (free from nerves as I'd already been informed that I had passed that class on my assignment marks alone) then celebrated by ordering pizza with the girls and passing out on the couch by 8.30pm. :P

I'm still in the habit of setting my alarm for 6.30 every morning, but with the 10+ design jobs I have lined up I'm thinking this is probably a good thing.  B has also just finished Uni for the year and has informed me that he will be watching cricket non-stop in the vicinity of my office/designing space, so it will be interesting to see how long I can last without screaming at him to turn the tv down.  I'm so lucky that I have my little design business to keep me busy over the holidays, but poor B only has work two nights a week and doesn't have much else aside from playing computer games, watching cricket, and going for his daily run along the boardwalk to keep himself entertained.  Here's hoping he starts to take an interest in general housework and cleaning up after he makes himself a snack. ;)

We will probably start hitting up our local cinema a lot more over the next few months (to escape our boredom and momentarily avoid this ridiculous Queensland heat) but mark my word, if we have to encounter another teenage couple doing obvious sexual favours in the seats behind us like we did when we were watching Paranormal Activity the other night, I may just have to turn around and vomit my dinner all over them.  Seriously though, what is wrong with these people?!  I know I'm probably sounding like an old woman here, but back when I was a teenager (which was only 4 years ago) I never would have dreamt of doing something so personal in a room full of complete strangers.. I mean where's their self respect? not to mention their respect for their partner in crime?  Here's an idea!  Why not show your "partner" how much you care about them by not pulling their pants down and making them moan undeniably loud in the middle of a public place?

/end rant.

My makeup collection.

Hey everyone,

So today I thought I would share another YouTube clip I made on my current makeup collection.  It might not be the hugest collection in the world, but for someone on a limited budget it is certainly a collection to be proud of. :)  Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope you guys enjoy!

My nail polish collection.

Hey guys!

If you'd like to have a quick peek in depth look at my collection of nail polishes, check out the video below.

P.s. I apologise in advance for how much I ramble on. :P
