My life lately.

Found this very obvious dupe of the Urban Decay Naked palette for only $15.

Picked up some yummy creme brulee scented candles from Target. :)

Scored some heavily discounted items from Typo..

including this gorgeous makeshift palette holder! :)

Spent Christmas Eve..

Christmas Day..

and Boxing Day with my favourite guy in the entire world!

Picked up all of this for just under $400 in the Boxing Day sales.

and purchased some new bits and bobs for our bedroom. :)

So what have you been up to lately?

What we got up to for Christmas & Boxing Day.

Hey guys,

Following on from my previous post about the events leading up to Christmas, today's post will be a slightly more detailed and picture filled recap of what B and I got up to for Christmas and Boxing day. Enjoy!  :)

Christmas Day

Joey, Phoebe and I on Christmas morning.

On Christmas morning B and I got up at around 6.30, mooched around in the lounge room taking photos of the dogs for a good half an hour, ate ham and jarlsberg (or in my case, ham and mustard) croissants for breakfast with my Mum and brother, then went back into the lounge room and assumed our positions for  the present opening extravaganza! (otherwise known as everyone but myself sitting comfortably on the couch or in a recliner whilst I get up and down every 5 seconds to hand out everybody's presents, lol).

The presents I handed out to everybody.

I couldn't be bothered taking photos of my own presents at the time, let alone anyone else's, but lets just say that everyone seemed very happy with what they were given.  Some of my favourite presents from Christmas morning were the two large comfy pillows that my brother gave us for the bedroom (the ones that we had been using previously made me wake up with a sore neck), Michel Mercier detangling brush for fine hair from my mother, and a white embossed vintage style biscuit barrel from B.  Probably my favourite part of the present opening though was watching the furbabies open and play with their presents.  After opening their first present they were so intrigued as to whether there were any more that they stuck their noses in every present being opened from that point on. :P

L-R: Phoebe and Joey getting in on the fun, opening their presents, destroying their presents, and sniffing out my presents.

After everyone had finished opening their presents we started cleaning up, getting showered, dressed etc, and packed up all of the food for our lunch at Picnic Point.  An hour and a half's drive and two cars later, the four of us arrived in Toowoomba ready to stuff our faces.  For Christmas lunch we were joined by B's Dad, two brothers, Aunt and Uncle, and due to a lack of communication as to who was bringing what, we ended up having twice the amount of food necessary to fill everyone's stomachs.  At the end of the day though it was better to have too much food than not enough, and fortunately we managed to bring quite a wide variety of food between us all. :)

Christmas day lunch at Picnic Point.

Once we'd finished lunch we all stood together for a family portrait (thanks to B's brother Tim and his camera tripod), packed everything up, then drove across town to where B's Aunt and Uncle were building their new house.  After a thorough tour of the work in progress we said farewell to his Aunt and Uncle and then the rest of us headed back to B's family home for a quick cup of tea before my Mum drove back to Brisbane.  Shortly after my Mum left, my brother headed over to stay at my Dads house for the night (my dad lives around the corner from B's dad) so B and I got stuck into some chips and gravy and then watched a bit of Anchorman until we fell asleep.

Boxing Day

On boxing day we woke up feeling somewhat refreshed by the cold rainy weather that had hit us overnight, so as soon as the shops opened B and I decided to venture out to check out the boxing day sales.  Much like last year the crowds were too big to get a proper look at things, so we decided to call it quits and check out the shops in our home town the following day.  The only thing I ended up buying was a set of three Christmas scented votive candles from Dusk as an extra little present for my Dad.  I normally wouldn't be able to afford any of the candles from Dusk, but on this particular day I was able to pick up that gift set for $10 marked down from $25. :)

L-R: My brother Mitchell, Judy, Dad, Lexi, Me and Abby.

Once we'd finished at the shops B and I drove over to my Dad's house to join my brother for boxing day lunch with Dad, Dad's partner Judy, and her two daughters Lexi and Abby.  After swapping presents (where we were lucky enough to be given a huge Christmas hamper and $100 cash!) my Dad surprised us all by getting down on one knee, pulling out a ring, and proposing to Judy in front of all us kids.  Of course Judy said yes (she even teared up a little bit), so we celebrated by eating chicken salad rolls and chocolate mud cake with ice cream. :)

Judy's engagement ring, and the happy couple.

After lunch we went into the backyard to get some family photos taken, then at around 3pm we packed up B's car and started making the two and a half hour trip back home to the Gold Coast.

What did you guys get up to for Christmas this year?

Merry Christmas! + What we're getting up to.

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all well and having a fantabulous Christmas day (and hopefully not reading this until after your celebrations). :D  Now, since I love Christmas and all the traditions that come with it so much, I thought I would take some time to share what B and I are getting up to this year. :)

Preparations

If you follow me on instagram you may already know that I put our Christmas tree up rather early this year. Just like last year, and probably for many years to come, I did this because in Australia our horrible summer weather can make it very hard to get in the Christmas spirit unless you're constantly surrounded by twinkling lights and the smell of unboxed Christmas decorations.  Having the tree up early also helps to remind me to get the majority of my Christmas shopping done and out of the way before the panic starts to set in.  This year I did at least half of my Christmas shopping online and scored a number of great bargains, however I couldn't pass up the experience of going Christmas shopping with friends and family at some of our local shopping centres (I think I hit 5 major shopping centres in total).  It seems like almost everyone goes into a mad panic at Christmas time, complaining about the large crowds and trying to find a car park, but clearly these people must be going to the wrong shopping centres because I always find a parking spot within the first two minutes, and very rarely have I had to wait long in line or bumped into strangers whilst walking through the aisles.  Maybe next year you should all just come Christmas shopping with me. :P

Some of our Christmas shopping!

The night before Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve Eve, B and I gathered up all of our presents, packed our travel bags etc and loaded his car for the hours drive to my Mum's place in Brisbane.  We arrived in the evening just in time for a yummy meal of roast silverside, then headed back out with my Mum and brother to check out some of the local Christmas light displays.  By the time we got back to Mums, B needed to go to work (he works night shift), so we said our goodbyes and I went to bed.

Christmas Eve

The next morning on Christmas Eve, I was woken by Phoebe and Joey, then not long after B arrived home from work and took over our bed for the day.  While B was sleeping the rest of us spent our time talking, eating, watching tv, playing with the dogs and opening our presents from our lovely Finnish friends Anita and Jaana (as they traditionally open all of their presents on Christmas Eve).  When B woke up later that afternoon we took the furbabies for a quick walk around the lake and then the four of us started getting ready for our annual Christmas Eve dinner at my Aunt and Uncle's house.

My brother, Mitchell, opening his presents from Anita and Jaana.

We arrived at my Aunt and Uncle's house at around 5 o'clock for drinks and nibblies on the back patio, and ended up playing several hilarious rounds of celebrity heads with my cousins and grandparents. Once it was dark we headed back inside to avoid the mozzies and exchange Christmas presents.  I was delighted to receive some luxurious soap and skincare products from my Aunty, as well as a large polka dot umbrella and some antique/family heirloom napkin rings from my Nana and Pa. :)

Myself and B at my Aunty's house on Christmas Eve. :)

Every year without fail my Aunt puts on the most incredible Christmas spread including roast pork, turkey, ham, prawns (not that I eat them), her infamous potato salad, and in true Aussie tradition, a freaking good pavlova! :D  Unfortunately this year there was no pavlova (much to the mouth dropping disappointment of me and my cousin David, haha!) however there was a scrumptious trifle ready to send me into my inevitable food coma. :P

As usual, we didn't get back to Mum's place until just before midnight, so after reluctantly removing my make up and changing into my new favourite pyjamas, B and I fell straight to sleep and stayed that way until this morning..

Stay tuned for the rest of our Christmas recap later this week! :)

The Perfect Christmas + New Years Foundation.

Hey lovelies,

I've been meaning to do a review on this foundation for months and months now, but for some reason I just never got around to it.  However when I was packing my make up bag for our Christmas trip this morning (more on that in a few days) I was reminded of just how incredible this foundation really is and forced myself to stop packing in order to write this review. :)

You see, not only have I found the Rimmel 'Wake Me Up' foundation to be wearable for both day and night, throughout every season of the year, but I've also found that it's warm glow and slight shimmer finish make this the perfect liquid foundation for flash photography.  With all the parties we are invited to attend over the holidays (or any time throughout the year really) the last thing we want is to look overly shiny or too drab/dull in the photographs that are bound to be taken.  What I have found from wearing this foundation is that it provides me with a happy medium - a not too dull, not too shiny, fresh and awake complexion.

Other things I like about this foundation:
- It contains SPF 15, yet it doesn't feel greasy on your skin.
- It comes in a sturdy glass bottle with a cute orange pump and lid (there's something about the colour orange that just makes me feel happy).
- It smells amazing! like a pleasant smelling fruit.. I just can't quite put my finger on which one.
- Although it is only a medium coverage foundation, it is actually very buildable.
- A little goes a long way (In the past when my skin has broken out right before a big night out, just three pumps from this baby gave me an absolutely flawless complexion).
- Despite the limited choice of shades in this range, I've found that the shades they do have are really good at adapting to different skin tones (for example, 'true ivory' looks flawless on my skin regardless of whether I'm pasty white or completely tan).
- It can be very long lasting when teamed with a mattifying powder, and in winter I found that I didn't need a powder at all.
- It can be applied with ease using just your fingertips, making it a great foundation to keep in your bag for reapplication throughout the day.

I have recommended this foundation to several of my friends during the past 6 months, all with different skin tones/types to mine, and every single one of them fell head over heels for this foundation.  I would honestly be so surprised to meet someone who didn't fall in love with this foundation.  That's just how confident I am about this product.

The last time I checked the Australian regular retail price for this foundation was $19.99, and I have seen this product available in virtually any chemist, Big W, Target, Kmart and Priceline store.  If you're interested in trying this foundation but don't want to spend that much money (who wants to pay more when they could be paying less) you can order yourself a bottle here from the feel unique website for roughly $12.50 Australian with free international delivery. :)

Have any of you tried the Rimmel 'Wake Me Up' foundation before?

What were your thoughts?

My life lately.

Spent a fair bit of time in the presence of this gorgeous face. :)

Got taken for a walk by the dogs. :P

Treated myself to some more hair products that were on special.

Picked up some new shoes and nail polish in my new favourite colour for Summer.

Isn't it pretty?

Rocked the no heat curl look on more than one occasion.

Felt the need to take a selfie on more than one occasion also.

Received this oversized Christmas bear from my Dad and his partner Judi.

Picked up some new storage for my office/designing area. :)

And last but not least, I splurged on these cute tea party pyjama pants. :D
