Today is my birthday!

Hey lovelies,

As you all know I am currently away on my final ever teaching internship and it's because of this that I haven't been able to keep up with my usual Thankful Tuesdays and My Life Lately posts.  Today, however, is a very special day as it just so happens to be my 24th birthday! :)

As far as I know there hasn't been anything planned for me, although if there has I'll be sure to post about it on my Instagram or here on the blog in just a few more weeks.  In the mean time though, I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to go through my 23 while 23 list that I created around this time last year.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, basically I created a list of 23 things that I had hoped to have achieved/had happen before I turned 24 this year.  I've inserted a copy of this list below so that we can all see what I have or have not managed to get checked off.

23 while 23
1. Finish Uni with a GPA of 5 or higher.
I don't actually graduate until the end of next month, but as long as I pass all of my current subjects I will definitely have a GPA of at least 5.

2. Get engaged to the man of my dreams.
Hah! I wish.. maybe if I'm really lucky he'll propose to me by the end of today.

3. Go on some sort of vacation, even if it's just for one night.
Unfortunately a vacation just wasn't on the cards for us. :(

4. Reach 1000 GFC followers! :D
Yeah, no.  Didn't quite happen for me this year. Haha!

5. Get back down to my goal weight of 51kg.
I actually don't have a specific goal weight any more, but I'll explain why when I get back from my internship next month.

6. Read 'Fifty shades of grey' (just to see what all the hype is about).
Done! In fact, I read all three of the books from this series.

7. Go to Dreamworld, or at least purchase passes for Dreamworld.
Sadly going to Dreamworld didn't fit into our budget this past year.

8. Invite friends over for dinner and a game of Pictionary. :)
Damnit, I forgot all about this one!

9. Do another 7 day cleanse.
Well I didn't do the lemon detox, but I have been on a permanent daily detox/cleanse for the past couple of months, so to me that still counts.

10. Fill up the rest of my recipe folders.
Nearly, but not quite.

11. Start creating my own digital artwork for our apartment and to share on the blog.
Done and done!

12. Save $1000 in case we need to move again.
Done!  Unfortunately we won't be moving until the beginning of next year though. :(

13. Get all dressed up and have someone take some professional looking photos of me for the blog.
Done.  Thanks Tim!

14. Spend a week without the internet.
I wish!

15. Clean up my friends list on facebook.
Doneeeeeee. :D

16. Not consume any alcohol unless it's part of a recipe (jelly shots don't count).
From January 1st onwards I've managed to do this, but I slipped in the months beforehand.

17. Complete some more DIY projects.
I re-purposed some old jewellery to give away as gifts. Does that count?

18. Get myself into a morning routine of showering, eating breakfast and having my hair and make up done before 8am.
Haven't quite mastered this yet.

19. Go to a flea market.
I went to the Carrara Markets and a farmers market, so that's good enough for me.

20. Catch up with old friends that I haven't seen for ages (Hayley, Kim, Beck, Jamie and Rikki come to mind).
I caught up with Hayley and Kim just the other day actually, and Rikki a few times as well.  I really need to catch up with Jamie and Beck as soon as I finish Uni though.

21. Get Mum to teach me how to crochet or use a sewing machine.
Hmm.. forgot I wanted to do this as well.

22. Expand my blog design business.
Still a work in a progress, but I will be revealing the new expansion towards the end of next month.

23. Create a 24 while 24 list.
I will be revealing this list tomorrow.

Well, it looks as though I managed to get about half of this list checked off, so I guess that isn't too bad of an effort!  I did much better than I thought I would have done at least. :P  Who knows.. perhaps by this time next year I'll finally have that ring on my finger!

Come back tomorrow to check out my '24 while 24' goals list. :)

Wish Me Luck!

Hey lovelies,

I just thought I'd take a quick five minutes to let you all know that I won't be as active here on the blog for the next four weeks as tomorrow I am starting my final internship before officially becoming a Teacher!  I am super excited, super scared and seriously freaking out right now.. but I'll take comfort in knowing that you guys are all here supporting me and waiting for my return. :)

I have scheduled a couple of posts to pop on the blog whilst I'm away (you'll see why when you read them), so please comment on these posts as you normally would as I promise I will still be reading all of them.

Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic month ahead of you, and I can't wait to get back and tell you guys everything that I've gotten up to.

My Life Story: Part 1.

I was born in Brisbane, Australia on May 29, 1989 to my parents Patricia and James.  Almost two years later my baby brother Mitchell came along and we spent the next few years living in this gorgeous rental property in Redbank Plains.  We had a large fenced yard where we could freely run around chasing our two poodles, Shauna and Sammy, and we had a cute wooden bridge in our front garden that made me feel like a fairy.

Left: Me on the wooden bridge wearing my new raincoat in the middle of a sunny day.
Right: Mum pregnant with me, holding our two poodles.

When I was 4 years old I remember packing up in the middle of the night and being told that we were moving to our new house in a suburb called One Mile.  I don't remember much about the moving experience, but I do remember only taking Shauna with us and still being allowed to attend the same Kindergarten.  As I grew older I eventually learned that my Mum and Dad had purchased this new house.

One of my worst childhood memories whilst living in this house happened quite early on.  When I was around five or six this large German Shepherd from across the road ran into our yard while my Dad had the front gate open to reverse his car out of the driveway.  Our beautiful poodle Shauna who had been very well trained was sitting by the front door step at the time, and well.. I'm sure you can figure out the rest.  I've had an aversion to German Shepherds ever since. :(

It was also around that time that I had just started Primary School, and whilst I was incredibly bright I really struggled to fit in at the school that I was attending.  My classroom teachers were lovely and I had a couple of really nice friends, but my P.E. teacher was just downright abusive (which I didn't realise until years later) and most of the kids were stuck up little shits.

Left: Me holding Shauna about a year or two before she died.
Right: Me dressed as a vampire with a batman cape and my friends on Halloween.

When I was seven and half and about to start year three, Mum decided that would be the perfect time for me to change schools.  The school we changed to was much, much smaller and the children and staff were a hundred times friendlier than they were at our previous school.. all except for this one boy, who had basically labelled himself as the class bully.  I don't remember much of the bullying but I do know that it happened from the moment I walked into the classroom, so it wasn't really the best way to start at a new school.  He picked on me for wearing braces (which was actually just a temporary plate), and possibly because my name sounded like the word 'electricity'.  Fortunately the bullying didn't last for too long as he eventually got in trouble for bullying other girls as well.

My first few weeks at my new school weren't entirely horrible though.  On my first day in the classroom our year three teacher asked us all to sit in a circle and say our name as well as one word that best described what we wanted to be when we grew up.  When it came to my turn I introduced myself and told everyone I wanted to be a "brain surgeon".  I was reminded that brain surgeon was actually two words, and advised that I might want to consider the word "doctor" instead.. Ha!  Anyway, after I'd had my turn the sweet girl sitting beside me who had shown me around the school grounds at lunch time introduced herself as Jamie and told the class she wanted to be a "Stripper".  I'm not sure if anyone even knew what a stripper was, but I did, and I decided then and there that Jamie and I were going to best friends. :P

Left: Me on my first day at my new school for Grade 3.
Right: Me and Jamie posing as the "two bullies" for book week.

..stay tuned for Part 2!

I was originally going to try and write this in 250 words or less as part of the Blog Everyday in May Challenge that everyone's been jumping on board with, however I have a pretty incredible memory when it comes to my childhood and I would hate to leave anything out of this little "life story" that I have gone and started.  So, if you think that you can bare with me for a few more instalments I would be happy to share some more highlights from my trip down memory lane.. although it will more than likely be after I have finished my assignments and my internship that starts later this month.

Let me know if you have been participating in the Blog Everyday in May Challenge and feel free to provide a link to your own "life story" post in the comments below. ;)

Have you ever?. Free Printable!

for more sizes, click here.

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I last shared a free printable on here, so today I figured why not spend my procrastination time creating something pretty for the blog.  I decided to go with a simple background and a stand out meaningful quote, which as some of you may know is actually a line from one of my favourite songs by Pink titled "Glitter in the air".

These lyrics used to be plastered all over my bedroom walls back when I was still a youngin', and I once even dreamed of getting this exact line tattooed on my body some day (don't worry Mum, I've decided to make it into a printable instead.. haha!).  I hope you guys like this quote as much as I do!

My life lately: Catching up with old friends!

1. I've recently been receiving a lot more compliments than usual on the length of my hair and how much it suits me - this makes me happy and has definitely boosted my confidence a little.  This photo was taken before going out for dinner when I decided to leave my hair au natural.

2. The Saturday before last B and I went out to dinner for one of his best friends birthdays and this was the view from our table.  It definitely made the long, cold and potentially quite miserable wait to be served a little bit more bearable. :)

3. My besties Anita and Jaana (who moved up North for teaching positions at the end of February) spent their school holidays travelling around England and France for a few weeks and upon their return briefly stopped in at the Gold Coast to visit their family and ME!  I was so happy to finally catch up with them, even though they could only stay for a couple of hours, and we spent the entire time talking non stop. :D  The goodies pictured above are the lovely souvenirs that the girls brought back for me. :)

4. The next morning after the girls had left I drove up to Mums place to drop off her souvenirs (a lovely fridge magnet and an ornament for her garden) and to have a good old catch up.  At one point, whilst jabbering away at the table, Mum and I looked over to see these nosey faces listening in on our conversation.. haha!  They looked so adorable that I just had to snap a photo. :P

5. On my way home from Mums I arranged to stop in at my good old mate Kim's new place as we hadn't seen each other in over a year, plus she had kindly offered to lend me her son to help me out with a teaching assessment.  It was so lovely to finally catch up again and even better since we didn't once have to deal with one of those awkward, havent-seen-each-other-in-forever silences.  Don't you just love having friends like that? :)  Haha, anyway.. for my assessment I had to ask Kim's son to write a short story for me (which I helped him with of course) and he decided to make the main character his miniature dachshund 'Bentley'.  It's nice to see that my friends have such good taste in pets. ;)

6. Just before I left, Kim asked me if I'd be interested in taking the above canvas paintings home with me.  I thought she was kidding at first as I knew she was obsessed with these particular kinds of paintings, however she assured me that she wasn't kidding and that she already had too many of these canvases on the walls of her house as it was.  Knowing that these canvases would look amazing hanging up in the hallway of our apartment I obviously jumped at the offer, and I am so glad that I did as this once bare hallway is now my favourite part of our apartment. :D

7. Despite the fact that I've been extremely slack lately when it comes to attending the gym, I've still found the motivation to go out and buy gym gear that it will probably be too cold to wear soon anyway.  Oh well, at least I will be prepared come Spring I guess.

8. Another thing I treated myself to in the past couple of weeks were these Rimmel London nail polishes.  This of course led to me reorganising my nail polish collection for the fifth millionth time this year, as well as painting my nails in all three colours at once.

9. I also treated myself to the above additions for my office space as I had a discount code for Typo that I needed to use up before the expiry date.  The owl came down to $5 and the vintage magazine holder (which I will be using to store loose papers) came down to $6, so I am pretty happy with those bargains.

10. Finally, last weekend one of my high school besties Hayley caught the train down to visit me, and after hitting up the local farmers market together we decided to make the delicious concoction above for our lunch. As Hayley is a vegetarian and I'm strictly eating clean we both absolutely LOVED this dish, so feel free to let me know if you'd like me to share this recipe on the blog. :)
