October Designs + DIY Blog Design Series?

Today I thought I would take the time to share some of the blog and other graphic design jobs that I have been working on throughout October.  If you're interested in having your own blog designed, feel free to check out my blog design page and send me an email.  I have plenty of openings throughout November so you wouldn't have to wait long at all. :)

I'm also thinking of starting up some DIY blog design posts here on the blog next month for those of you who want to learn a few little tricks and tips.  Before I can go ahead though I need to know just how many of you would actually be interested in reading these types of posts as they will be very time consuming to prepare, and I wouldn't want to waste my time writing them if nobody is going to read them.  So yeah, let me know in the comments below and if I get five or more comments I will set the first post up to go live next week. :D

Ashlee, from AshleeDel, is a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger who wanted a simple, feminine, vintage chic style blog design to match her personality.  To achieve this look we decided to go with a dusty pink and light baby pink/peach colour scheme, with a mixture of elegant and modern fonts and floral touches throughout.

Laura, from WhatLauraLoves, is an experienced fashion and beauty blogger who contacted me in hopes of purchasing a more professional and eye catching design for her blog.  To match the colour of the gorgeous dress that Laura models in her sidebar photo (a dress that she designed herself for a major plus sized fashion brand over in the UK) we decided to make the colour scheme of her design mostly coral with pops of turquoise and light grey.  Laura also wanted a recurrent appearance of love hearts throughout her design, which I managed to achieve by incorporating them into her header, navigation bar, sidebar titles, social media icons and even her blog post signature.  A lovely blog design that looks great on any browser. :)

Catherine, from Cat Hearts, is yet another beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger based in the UK who contacted me to purchase a new blog design this month.  It appears that hearts are very popular at the moment because once again the theme of love hearts was requested, only this time we decided to go for a much softer look, using light pinks and lilacs and greys in place of blacks. :)

I'm currently also working on a huge collaborative design project for an exciting new small business that is starting up in South Africa, so you can expect to see/hear more about that in the upcoming weeks.

So what do you guys think?  Which of the designs above is your favourite?

My life lately: Tackling my anxiety head on.

1.  A few weeks ago now Anita and Jaana flew back down to visit their family (and me!) over the school holidays.  I only got to see them for one day, but still, it was a pretty awesome day.  We started off our day together by hitting up Ikea for breakfast and then spent about an hour walking around imagining that we lived in the display rooms.  After Ikea we headed over to my Mums place to walk the dogs and had a yummy picnic lunch by the lake.  We then went over to visit my Nana to see how she was doing since my Pa had passed on and was relieved to see that she appears to be doing well. :)  Before it got too dark we decided to drive back to the coast to have dinner and watch a movie at my place.  I of course fell asleep half way through the movie, but I'm pretty sure the girls managed to enjoy it without me. :P  I can't wait until the Christmas holidays now so they can come back down to help me with house hunting.  Love you girls!

2.  The following week I finally caught up with another old friend of mine, Jamie, and her one month old baby boy Xavier.  Jamie and I have known each other since we were 7-8 years old, so to see her with a baby was actually a really strange experience.  It's obvious what a great Mum she is though and I'm really proud of her. She makes me feel a little more confident that I might actually be a good Mum myself one day. :)

3. In regards to my graphic design business everything has been going well (although I could do with a few extra design jobs at the moment to help me save for our big move coming up).  I was invited to attend a free quarterly networking breakfast at the Emerald Lakes golf club a couple of weeks ago, and despite the fact that I was coming down with
tonsillitis that day, I had a really enjoyable morning.  Breakfast was delicious, the people were friendly, I had the opportunity to hand out lots of business cards, and best of all we had an amazing motivational speaker.  I just hope that one day I will have an awesome story of my own that I can share to motivate others.

4. Although business has been going well on a whole, things are still a bit slow at the moment and so I have had to start babysitting on the weekends.  You probably can't tell from the picture above but babysitting actually freaks me out a lot.  I've never had a really young sibling or cousin to look after (I will soon though!), and the children I worked with during my prac experiences were always 5 years or older.  My anxiety went sky high simply from placing my babysitting ad online, but I'm forcing myself to push through it by throwing myself in the deep in.  Tomorrow I'm babysitting for three different families: a 1 year old boy from 8.30-11.30, 2 and 5 year old boys from 12-6, and 1 and 2 year old boys from 7pm through til the next morning.. eeek!  Wish me luck. :P

So what have you been up to lately?

Top 5: TV Shows I'm Currently Watching.

My inspiration for today's post is the lovely Lauren from TastesLikeLove who has been posting her top 5 "currents" as a monthly feature on her blog.  This week she posted about the top 5 TV shows that she is currently watching, and being the TV show addict that I am I thought I would do the same.  Enjoy! :)

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Rules of Engagement / I stumbled upon this awesome show by accident a few months ago when I was flipping through the tv guide out of boredom. I saw the title and remembered my partner once telling me not to bother watching it as he knew I wouldn't like it. Well, since I don't take kindly to being told what to do, I of course decided to give the show a go and I instantly fell in love.  If you like shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother (seasons 1-4 of HIMYM anyway) then Rules of Engagement is the show for you.  I have since finished watching all 7 seasons, and in all honesty, there wasn't a single episode that I regretted watching. The very final episode of season 7 was a great way to end a TV series, and each season leading up to it appeared to be planned/timed in perfect accordance.  My favourite characters were Jeff and Audrey, although every single character grew on me over time (yes, even Russell and Liz!).

Modern Family / Another TV series that has yet to bore me is Modern Family.  I like how each episode has a funny new storyline and doesn't rely solely on reaching a final conclusion (can you tell I'm hating HIMYM at the moment?).  Phil and Gloria are my two favourite characters, but really, they're all pretty awesome.  If you haven't seen this show already, you definitely need to!  I'm half way through season 5 at the moment and loving every minute of it. :)

Breaking Bad / Yes, that's right, I'm one of the probably thousands of people who only started watching Breaking Bad after the show had finished.  To be fair though, I actually hadn't even heard about this show until fans started getting all nostalgic after the final episode had aired.  Anyway, how I found out about this TV show aside, the storyline is fantastic!  I was hooked by the end of the first episode.  Even though there are times when the show gets a little boring/slow, there is always some upcoming episode or scene that will be guaranteed to blow your mind.  I literally just finished watching the end of season 3 and I am seriously having to exercise some major self control not to dive straight into season 4.  Watch it.. just watch it, trust me!

Castle / Another long running favourite TV show of mine would have to be Castle.  The main character wears a bullet proof vest that says 'writer' on it for crying out loud. I mean really, what chance did I ever have of not loving Castle? none!  Seriously though, the show may have some obvious flaws in regards to how realistic its story lines are, but that cheeky writer and sexy detective give the show that perfect balance of humour and sex appeal (and eventually romance, yay!) to keep me coming back for more.  A firm favourite of mine. :)

Dexter / As I'm sure many of you know, my all time favourite TV show (second only to 'Friends') would have to be Dexter.  Although not currently airing (the final ever episode aired at the end of last month), I still consider Dexter to be one of my current favourites, because truthfully, I'm still in some denial about the fact that the show has finally ended.  I could go on and on about why this show is awesome, but I'd much rather you all just found out for yourselves if you haven't had the pleasure to already.  I'd liken Dexter to Breaking Bad in the sense that both shows are addictive, you love the main characters even though you'd probably hate them in real life, and both main characters finish out the final season with a beard (LOL!).

A Fun Little Quiz.

Hey guys,

I hope you all are well. :)  Since it's the weekend I thought it might be fun to write a light hearted post, so I've decided to do a fun little quiz that Kaelah posted on her blog the other day.  Let me know if you end up doing this quiz in the comments section below and I'll pop on over to check it out!

1. A day in the life: What does you typical day look like?
My alarm going off at 5.45 to tell me to take one of my Narcolepsy meds to assist me in waking up.  My alarm going off again at 6.15 when I either get out of bed and go to the bathroom, or lie in for 15 minutes playing on my phone.  By around 6.30 I'm usually up and ready to go, although I tend to hold off on having a shower until late morning/early afternoon if I don't have to leave the house that day.  I then spend the next few hours replying to emails, eating breakfast, blogging etc. before starting my official work day at roughly 9am.  I then work through until B comes home in the evening, only stopping for a quick lunch/shower if I haven't already had one.  Once B gets home (around 5pm at the moment) I talk my head off for half an hour and then start making our dinner while B goes for a run.  We usually eat dinner on the couch together while watching an episode of one of our favourite TV shows, or if B doesn't have any Uni work to do we might even watch a movie.  I'll then go to bed at around 9.30 because that's generally the time that B wants to go to sleep.

2. What TV show are you most excited about returning this Spring (Fall/Autumn for those of you on the other side of the world)?
Probably 'Castle'.

3. What is something really popular that you secretly (or not so secretly) loathe?
Those jelly sandal things that are apparently popular again.

4. Do you have any pets? Tell us about them! Bonus points for pictures.
I have two dogs that live with my Mum and Brother.  An almost 4-year-old female miniature dachshund named Phoebe, and a 2-year-old Maltese X named Joey.  I'm hoping to get a couple of miniature dachshunds of my own next year as well. :)

5. What are 3 positive words to describe you?
Determined, Thankful and Loyal.

6. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
Springfield Lakes.  I used to live there with my family before I moved out with B, and it's seriously the most perfect suburb to raise a family in.  I'd ideally like to live in a house just like my Mum's place as well.

7. Dream job?
Being a stay at home Mum and working from my home office as a freelance graphic designer.

8. Least favourite chore?
Cleaning the bathroom.  It doesn't help that we have a laundry/bathroom combo, because every time the dryer is on the whole room gets covered in lint.

9. When do you feel most like a rock star?
When I'm having a good hair/skin day and feel confident in my own skin.

10. What is something you are currently trying to improve within yourself?
Finding the motivation to stick to a routine.  Working from home is a challenge for me, I'm not going to lie.
