Confessions of a Blogger Tag.

Hi Lovelies,

After the heavy post about my Nana earlier this week, I thought I would lighten things up around here and do the 'Confessions of a Blogger' Tag that I saw Kayleigh post on her blog.  If you end up deciding to do this tag yourself, feel free to link up your post in the comments section below! :)

♥ When did you start your blog?
On the 24th of April, 2011.. so almost 2 years ago!

Why did you start your blog?

I started this blog to document mine and B's life in our twenties, so that in years to come our children would be able to look back and read up on our lives.

♥ Have you had any past online presence before? e.g. another blog, youtube etc.

I sure have.  When I was a young teenager (around 13-14 years old) I experimented with building websites on various free platforms, but would always delete them shortly after creating them.  I then moved on to creating fan forums for some of the celebrities that I was obsessed with, which also led to me interacting with (and sometimes even meeting in person) tonnes of like-minded people.  As for blogging.. I've tried out wordpress, tumblr, livejournal etc in the past, but never had enough interest in blogging to ever really keep it up.  I was also an active myspace user up until around 6 years ago. :P

♥ When did you become 'serious' about blogging?

Probably around the end of 2011.  I'm not sure why, but I just started taking a lot more pride in what I was doing, and became a lot more meticulous about making sure to schedule my posts.

♥ What was your first post?

My first post was basically an introduction about who I was at the time and what my intentions were for this blog.  You can re-read my first post here.

♥ What has been your biggest challenge with blogging?

Finding the time to write a decent post.  I get so caught up in worrying about what I believe others might like to read, when really I should simply be posting for myself.

♥ Where do you see your blog in one year?

I've honestly got no idea, and I like it that way.  Hopefully still going strong though. ;)

♥ What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?

Forming awesome bonds with like-minded ladies, discovering things about myself that I wasn't previously aware of, learning new recipes/diy projects etc.

♥ What is the most discouraging thing?

Getting caught up in the numbers game.

♥ What's your lasting inspiration or motivation?

My future children, and the idea that they could somehow benefit from the insight that I choose to share.  Also, blog designing, hehe. :)

Thankful Tuesdays.

Thankful Tuesdays
<a href="http://www.pursuitoffelicity.com/"><img src="http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n598/felicitynielsen/thankfultuesdayslinkup.jpg" alt="Thankful Tuesdays" /></a>

Life, death and miracles.

I can't believe it.  I honestly cannot believe it.  This time last week my 79 year old Nana was lying in hospital being informed that due to her severe kidney failure and inoperable pancreatitis she would have roughly 24 hours to live.  Now, on the day we should have been expecting to be holding her funeral, my Nana is being transferred to a hospice with her blood tests showing that she could very well recover..

** Warning - This post may get a little bit heavy **

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

My Mum and Grandpa were both in the room when this news was given to my Nana last Tuesday.  According to my Mum, this was the first time in her entire life that she had ever witnessed her father cry. :(  After receiving this news my Nana was then moved straight to a private room in the Intensive Care Unit, where our family was granted 24hr visitor access in order to say our "goodbyes".

The next day was one of the saddest days of my life.  I cancelled all of my plans for the day and drove up to visit my Nana along with my Mum, brother, Grandpa, cousins, Aunts and Uncles who all took the day off work to come and say goodbye.  In fact, all but two of her children/grandchildren came to visit her that day, and that's only because one of them was interstate at the time, and the other one lives overseas.

Once we arrived it was like something out of a movie.  The whole situation was just so surreal to me.  To see my Nana in such a bad state and knowing that there was nothing anyone could do for her was truly heartbreaking.  What made things even harder was watching my Mum and her older sister clinging on to Nana's hands and crying for the loss that they had been told was about to come.  The trigger that opened the floodgates for everybody though was when my Uncle called from overseas and asked to speak to Nana on speaker phone.  Perhaps we should have left for the room for that phonecall, because as my Uncle cried his heart out on the phone, the whole room burst into tears. :(

Later that evening (a few hours after the time that the doctors had predicted that she would pass) my Nana woke up from already broken sleep and started screaming/crying for someone to take my Grandpa home to rest.  My poor Grandpa of course refused to do so at first, and he started crying into the covers, yelling at anyone who tried to help him up.  Eventually Nana's pleading had an effect on him though as he all of a sudden rose from the bed and asked my Mum to drive him home.  He told my Nana that he would be back in the morning, all the while believing that she would pass away during the night.  For Pa, this was their final goodbye, and he barely made it through the corridor before completely breaking down.

The next morning, after staying with my Mum and brother overnight, Mum and I took Pa back up to the hospital where my amazing Aunt and cousin had been taking shifts to watch over Nana throughout the night. Much to Pa's delight my Nana was still alive and surprisingly seemed much better than she did the day before (she was still incredibly unwell, but she was a lot more relaxed and was finding it easier to breathe).  We all couldn't help but smile as my Nana and Pa embraced - a very rare sight for the majority of the family. :)

We stayed at the hospital with Nana all day Thursday until a special visitor arrived late in the afternoon.  Turns out my Uncle from overseas who had called the previous afternoon had immediately taken a 22 hour flight to Australia with the hope of being able to say goodbye to his mother in person.  Unfortunately my Uncle's wife was unable to accompany him as she is in the middle of their first pregnancy and my Uncle didn't want her to have to sit through such a long flight, however the fact that my Uncle showed up so quickly was more than any of us could have hoped for.

Once Pa knew that Nana was in the company of my Uncle, he bravely took it upon himself to ask my Mum to drive him home again.  I knew I wouldn't be back the next day as I hadn't packed a spare change of clothes etc, so I leaned in for what I believed was going to be my last goodbye hug from Nana.  As I was doing so, Nana pulled me closer to tell me that she loved me, and then she whispered in my ear that I was a "good girl" who had "done my service".  This was Nana's cheeky way of letting me know that she didn't expect me to come back in the morning, and it ultimately helped to relieve some of the guilt that I was feeling over leaving.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Ever since then my Nana's health has (seemingly) improved more and more each day.  I mean seriously, what's the go?!  Of course I'm delighted that my Nana appears to be on the road to recovery, it just angers me so much that doctors have the power to hand someone a death sentence without absolute certainty like that.

I can't even begin to describe how emotionally draining it is to grieve the loss of a loved one before they've even left you.. but to be forced to do this day in and day out for over a week is beyond comprehension.

Which begs the question.. is my Nana's improving health some sort of miracle? or is it simply the result of us being ill-informed by her doctor?

Some more recent blog designs!

Hi lovelies!

I'm still not totally ready to talk about the sad stuff that has been happening in my life recently, so I've decided to share with you all the designs that I've been working on for these last few months instead.

My most favourite design that I finished off recently was for Elrese from Dressed in the City.  Elrese's design was inspired by her love for candy colours, vintage bird cages, lace, flowers and all things girly. :)

The above design was created for Ariel from Chic Look xo.  Ariel is a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger and a huge fan of the colours hot pink, black and white.

This vintage meets modern design above was designed for Georgina from Make Up Wishes.  Georgina had asked for a simple and elegant design, and this was what I came up with.

The pastel design above design was created for an up and coming youtuber, blogger and make up artist named Nicola from Pin Up Beauty.  I just love how clean and simple this design looks. :)

This ocean inspired design was created for Suzye from Just a drop in the ocean.  My favourite thing to create for this design was definitely the heart shaped polka dotted background, hehe.

I created the peachy, pink design above for a lovely girl named Laura from Secret Diary of an English Rose. I think the colours and fonts work really well together, and the polka dot background works a treat.

The design above was created for the gorgeous Liz from Lizabellys.  I just love, love, love the colour scheme that Liz chose as well as the dotted font that I used for the header. :)

This bright pink design was created for a beauty blogging Mummy named Hannah from Awaken Beauty.  I feel like this design is very cute and quirky, yet simple and clean at the same time.

Another one of my favourite designs was this one that I created for Marina from Fashion Land. Inspired by a page in a fashion magazine, Marina's header is by far the stand out element of this design, and is something that I am very proud to say I created.

Last but not least, I also helped the lovely India from The Jewel Beauty out with some new design elements and custom coding to match her existing header, and to tidy up the overall look of her blog.  As you can see from the before and after screenshots below, the results truly speak for themselves..

So there you have it!  Which one is your favourite?

Not so thankful Tuesday..

Hey lovelies,

This is just a short post to let you guys know that I'm not feeling up to posting my usual 'Thankful Tuesdays' link up post today, but that I will hopefully be back on track with it once again next week.

As you might have already guessed it's been a pretty depressing week for me.  I should probably write about it all, but I don't really want to depress you guys as well.. who knows though, perhaps I'll share what's been bothering me tomorrow.

Hope you've all been having a better week than I have.

My life lately.

B turned 25 last Saturday, so I baked him these cookies and a chocolate mud cake. :)

We also went out for dinner and drinks, although I stuck to mocktails all night.

My new business cards arrived from Moo.com!
Use the code '2RB2CK' to get 15% off your first order.

B and I both unknowingly gave each other novelty sized toblerone bars for Valentines Day. :P

I attempted to do some Valentines nail art. :)

Valentines Day Tag.

1. What are your thoughts on Valentines Day/Why?
I personally think Valentines Day is super lame.  If someone is going to buy you chocolates and tell you that they love you, why not buy you chocolates and tell you that they love you every day? I mean seriously. :P

2. Have you ever had a Valentine before?
Well, yeah.. but only because I happened to be in a relationship over Valentines Day.  I've never had a secret admirer or someone cheesily approach me and ask me to be their Valentine though.

3. What is the cutest thing that you have ever experienced on Valentines Day?
Probably when my first ever boyfriend gave me a gold heart necklace on our way to a Valentines dance.  It was cute because I was 13 at the time and we had only just started dating, so I wasn't actually expecting to get anything at all.

4. What is your favourite Valentines Day candy?
Chocolate.  The more chocolate the better. :)

5. Do you have a Valentine this year? If so, what do you have planned for them?
Of course.  B and I will both be busy working for most of the day, but I will be cooking him a yummy dinner and possibly even dessert.  I also have a funny card with a poo joke on it ready for him, and maybe even some chocolate.. who knows!

6. If you were to get a gift on Valentines Day what would it ideally be?
Perfume, chocolate, a cheap bunch of flowers.  A thoughtful card would be nice as well.

7. If you were to have a celebrity Valentine, who would it be?
Liam Neeson, Hugh Grant.. I can't decide. :P

My life lately.

Spent some time with my Mum and friends at the beach. :)

Redesigned my blog!

Watched the first three seasons of 'Felicity'.
(I'm half way through season 4 at the moment).

Survived the floods. :)
